There are hundreds if not thousands of dog training methods that are employed today.  Some of these methods use only positive reinforcement while others combine both positive and negative reinforcement.  Although most of these methods use almost similar techniques, there are some that are totally different, the suitability of each depending on the dog trainer, the dog owner and how responsive the dog is to a particular training technique.
 
Whichever training method you consider the most appropriate to train your dog, here are five dog training tips that will assist you get the best out of the training and have a very obedient and friendly best dog friend.

a) Dog training tip Research well – Although there are articles on the web that claim to have everything you need to train your dog, this is not entirely true.  Before you settle for a particular training technique, conduct a thorough research bearing in mind the natural behavior of the dog and what kind of a dog you want it to be after the training.

b) The younger the dog, the more effective the training will be – The younger the dog when it begins training, the better it will grasp the training.  However, it is not practical to train your dog when it is under 49 days old.  If you just got the dog or are planning to have one, make all necessary arrangements to start the training as soon as you can.

c) Training session regulation – Just like humans, dogs too lose focus after a certain time of training.  At the beginning, the training sessions should last no more than 12 to 15 minutes.  After the basics and you are certain that the dog is responding to training, you can extend the training sessions to up to 20 or 30 minutes.  Remember that to keep the dog interested and focused, the sessions have to be interesting, positive and interactive.

d) Ending the training sessions – The training sessions should always end on a positive note, no matter the technique in use.  If you have to discipline the dog towards the end of the training session, you can create a small activity after that, which you know the dog likes, and then reward it when it performs well.  This will make the dog look forward to the next training session.

e) Training sessions scheduling – The training sessions for your dog should be scheduled at the same time every day.  If you have a busy schedule and are available only after work and train the dog in the evening, then even for the days that you don’t go to work train the dog in the evening.  Consistency in timing helps the dog master training skills and remembers them before the training session.
