The most popular dog exercises

Exercise is as important to a dog as it is to humans.  Proper dog exercises will help tone a dog’s bones, muscles, joints and even a healthy mind.  There are a number of ways that you can train your dog to exercise.  Some of these methods are intense and will help you keep fit as well while others are more relaxing and demand no much effort.  However, the type of exercise that a dog likes largely depends on the type of the dog; some dogs are aggressive and active and prefer intensive exercise while others seem contented with just being around the master.  One thing you should know is that keeping the dog in shape is very rewarding both for the dog trainer and the dog itself.

Here are some of the most popular dog exercises:

a) Fetch – This is probably the most common and the most popular dog exercise.  It involves the dog owner throwing a ball and the dog running to fetch it and return it to the dog owner.  Although it may seem a pointless easy exercise, it is very enjoyable once the dog owner comes around to it.  The exercise is beneficial to both the dog owner and the dog.  These days, there are other objects available in local stores other than balls that can be used in the fetch exercise.

b) Tug – Tug is another common and very exciting exercise that involves pulling of a toy.  The dog pulls one end of the toy while the dog owner pulls the other.  The good thing about this exercise is that it can be carried out anywhere, even in the house while watching TV or outside in the park or garden.

c) Jogging – Jogging with a dog is an exercise for both the dog and the dog owner alike.  This is more of a sport than a game that shapes the health of the dog as well as that of the dog owner by far.  Jogging not only bonds the owner of the dog and the dog, it is also a way of getting the dog familiarized with the neighborhood and make it happy.

d) Cycling – In cycling exercise, the dog owner mounts and rides on a bicycle while the dog follows.  Although it may be difficult to keep the dog interested in the exercise, there are special leashes that the owner can use that grants the cyclist more control over the dog during the exercise.  However, before using a dog leash while cycling, it is vital that the dog undergoes basic leash training to make sure that it does not cause accidents during the exercise.

Dog training exercises are very important for both the dog and the dog owner.  Some people even choose to have dogs solely because they are a good company during exercise.  The most important thing in this process is to make sure that whatever the exercise; it must have the interest of both parties.  There are more exercises that you can choose to train with your dog; others are simple while others require other special equipments.
